Southern Region AAAE Conference

OSU Agricultural Education faculty and graduate students were authors of 10 of the 36 papers accepted for presentation at the conference, which is more than any other institution. The top five graduate student papers and top three faculty papers were recognized.  Our students and their faculty mentors produced three of the top five graduate student papers, including the outstanding graduate student paper for the conference. In addition, we produced the outstanding faculty paper.

The American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE) also presents its Southern Region awards at this conference. I am pleased to report that Shane Robinson was recognized as the Outstanding New Professional.

Listed below is a summary of the successes of our faculty and students at the conference:

Southern Region AAAE Outstanding New Professional:

Outstanding Faculty Research Paper:
Dr. Shane Robinson and Marshall Baker for their paper, “The Decisions Principals Make When Interviewing Candidates: Implications for Improving the Human Capital of Pre-Service Teachers in Agricultural Education.

Outstanding Graduate Student Research Paper:
Marshall Baker, J.C. Bunch and Kathleen Kelsey for their paper, “Science and Stick Welding: A Case Study of Effective Science Integration in a Traditional Agricultural Education Program.”

Runner-ups to the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Paper:
Joey Blackburn and Jon Ramsey for their paper, “Barriers to Conducting Supervised Agricultural Experience as Perceived by Pre-Service Agricultural Education Teachers.”

Nicholas Brown and Kathleen Kelsey for their paper, “Sidewalks and City Streets: A Model for Vibrant Agricultural Education in Urban American Communities.”
