By Sally Bauer Dwayne Cartmell, assisstant professor in agricultural communications was selected for the North American Colleges & Teachers of Agriculture Teacher Fellow Award, June 9, 2006. This esteemed award recognizes individuals whose hard work represent the best in higher education. A committee of NACTA members review criteria for the member nominated. Criteria includes a full-time appointment involving at least 25 percent teaching for a minimum of five to seven years; evaluations submitted by the instructor’s current students, alumni, peers, administrative officers and a self-evaluation; availability to students, teaching philosophy, as well as departmental activity are also factors. “It is especially humbling," Cartmell said, "the award is supported by letters from students and faculty”. He is also the recipient of the NACTA Teaching Award of Merit, Alan A. Kahler Outstanding Dissertation Award and Outstanding Research Paper. Cartmell received two bachelor of science degrees from Oklahoma State University one in agricultural economics in 1993 and the other in agricultural communications in 1994. He received his masters in agricultural education from OSU in 1998. He attended the University of Missouri where he received a PhD in agricultural education in 2001. For the last five years Cartmell has been back at OSU teaching basic agricultural photography, agricultural broadcasting and graduate coursework. This past May he taught the first advanced agricultural photography tour offered by the department, taking 11 students on an intensive ten day tour of Oklahoma to photograph the states wide variety of agricultural features. |
