Sample OAITC Project Proposal

Please answer the following questions.  Please limit your responses to no more than two total pages.

What do you hope to do with these funds (brief summary of the project)?

With these funds I would like to purchase materials for incorporating several Ag in the Classroom lessons into my curriculum throughout the year.

What are the goals of this project?

The goal of this project are to show children how agriculture is involved in almost everything they do on a daily basis. The children will experience practical, hands-on activities related to agriculture.

Why is this project important to your students?

Most of my students do not understand that our food comes from the land. I want to help get them in touch with that process so they will grow to appreciate the land and all the work that goes into providing food for their tables, the clothes they wear and all the many products that come from agriculture.

How do you plan to measure the success of the project?

I will have ongoing communication with the children, both written and oral, so I will know how successful the lessons are. I plan to also use some of the evaluation recommendations from the lessons I will be teaching as well.

How will this project help incorporate the use of Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom in your total curriculum. List specific lessons from the teaching guides.  Visit the Ag in the Classroom website for lesson ideas that can be used to support your project (www.agclassroom.org/ok).

I plan to use many of the lessons from the website. This project will take several months to complete because there are so many of the lessons I want to incorporate into the curriculum. Not all the lessons I intend to use are listed, only the ones for which I will be using grant funds. Here are some of the lessons I am planning to use:

Easy as Pumpkin Pie               Bee Dance                   Math for Peanuts

Plant Parts We Eat                  A Mixed Bag               Case of the Missing Pumpkin, This Little Pig  Stick Horse Rodeo      Mighty Earth Movers

Beautiful Bovine                      WhatÕs Your Brand?   Dirty Pictures

The Art of Growing Things     Egg Toss                     Circles

Creepy Crawly Critters                                                A Trip to the Animal Fair

If you plan to involve outside partners as resources, please describe how that will be done?

I plan to contact my county OSU Cooperative Extension Service educator for ideas about how to involve local partners. I would like to invite guests to come to my school to share their knowledge about plants or animals. I am planning to take a trip to a farm in our area so the children can view a working farm in action. I will also take the children to our county fair so they can see farm animals and get answers to their questions from the animalsÕ owners and my county educator.

How will the project be promoted, or how will the granting agency be recognized?

I will call our local newspaper and invite a reporter to some of our activities. While talking to the reporter, I will explain what we are doing and inform him/her about Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom and the Oklahoma Pork Council grant program. I will also send a letter home to parents explaining what we are doing.

B.  Do you expect to receive any other funding, donated items, or in-kind resources?  Your project will not be reduced by this amount nor is match required for funding. I plan to ask for donations from parents for inexpensive items, such as baggies. I will also ask some of my local Òbig boxÓ stores for donations.
