"HAY MARKET"

The Haymarket was organized in 1983 to assist sellers market and buyers purchase alfalfa hay more effectively. The Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Alfalfa Hay and Seed Association acts as the policy making body for Haymarket. Growers in Oklahoma with hay for sale notify their county Extension office. A grader inspects the hay, collects samples for laboratory analysis and collects listing fees. The laboratory analysis is conducted at Oklahoma State University's Forage testing lab. The Grader completes a listing form and sends it to the market Co-ordinator.

 The Haymarket is for Alfalfa buyers and Sellers. It is jointly sponsored program of the Oklahoma alfalfa Hay and Seed Association and Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service.

 After grading, the producer recieves one copy of the grading form and results of the laboratory analysis. The producer also receives a copy of the HAYMARKET printout. Producers are asked to indicate sales in order to keep the HAYMARKET list up to date.

 The HAYMARKET list is sent monthly to buyers from september through February, as well as listed on the internet. Buyers contact sellers directly to negotiate sale price, quanity, delivery and payment.
